"To see a world in a grain of sand, And a heaven in a wild flower. To hold infinity in the palm of your hand, and eternity in an hour." -- William Blake's 'Auguries of Innocence'.
I am a co-founder of ArtisM.
I'm a self-taught artist and I embrace a variety of arts (visual, written, dramatic, and musical) and media (ink, acrylics, oils, watercolours, print, clay, digital, film, et al).
In 2006 my work was exhibited in AGNSW. It was an interactive collection of works that broke the traditional relationships and boundaries of artist, artwork, gallery, and audience, and led to many art students submitting BoWs inspired by my artworks in 2007 and 2008.
I think the conceptual frame is the significant frame that defines 'what is art'. The context and philosophy of the artist, and the purpose of "to make art" is what separates us from happysnappers, junk collectors, and pornographers. To me, the traditional ideologies of art and aesthetics are devoid of what I see as art's purpose: expression. A message, an emotion, a thought - we show and feel through art. And let's face it, I don't care whether they made it from oil paint, alabaster, pixels, spoons, puffin bones, or a urinal. If you have something to express or portray - it doesn't matter what it's made of, so long as it suits the message and is a vehicle for it.
Art is about expression. Express yourself.
"Even before you could stand you bloody had crayons... It's your life... We knew from the start that you were going to be an amazing artist..."
